Achilles teacher receives financial literacy grant

Marissa Spencer, a kindergarten teacher at Achilles Elementary School, was one of four recipients of $150 grants awarded by the Hampton Roads Educators Credit Union, Inc., the credit union announced Monday.

The grants are to assist educators teaching financial literacy to elementary, middle, and high school students. The grants will help support current or new classroom projects that focus on financial literacy. The other three recipients were all from Hampton schools.

Chartered in 1954, Hampton Roads Educators Credit Union, Inc., operates one branch located on Cunningham Drive in Hampton, and is a full-service credit union serving school system staff, students, parents and retirees in Gloucester (including municipal employees), Hampton, Isle of Wight, Mathews, Middlesex, Poquoson, Surry, Williamsburg/James City County, Thomas Nelson Community College, Hampton University, Rappahannock Community College and the many private schools located in these areas.
