The Achilles Elementary School newsletter, "The Achilles Shield," was recognized in the 2012 APEX Awards for Publication Excellence competition. The awards are based on excellence in graphic design, editorial content and the ability to achieve overall communications excellence.

The Achilles publication was one of 23 out of 307 print newsletter entries to receive an Award of Excellence. The bi-monthly publication is compiled and produced by Achilles community education coordinator Deborah Bone using information provided by the school staff.
