Abingdon Ruritan Club’s Seafood Festival held May 20 sold out with 2,500 tickets purchased, drawing guests from near and far, including Wisconsin, Florida, Texas, New York, and even a busload of attendees from Virginia Beach. Despite the hot weather, the festival grounds in Bena were packed with smiling guests enjoying delicious seafood, cold drinks, live music, fellowship, and community spirit, a release said. Club members and other volunteers worked throughout the day to keep every booth running smoothly, serving a wide variety of seafood. The Gentlemen and Their Lady provided the day’s entertainment and kept the crowd dancing. Of course, the main attraction was the fresh seafood, like these oysters (photo below). The club invests the proceeds in local causes, organizations and individuals in need. Plans are already underway for the next Festival, which will be held on Oct. 21.
