Abingdon Ruritans to hold open house on Aug. 19

The Abingdon Ruritan Club is looking for good men and women, and members are planning an open house to reel in all those willing volunteers that are surely out in the community.

Slated to be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, at the clubhouse on Guinea Road in Bena, the open house promises to be an enjoyable way to find out more about the many activities and opportunities for volunteering the club offers. Booths will provide information on all of the Ruritan service areas—environment, citizenship/patriotism, social development, business/professional and public service.

There will be no vendors at the event, said public relations representative Sid Dugas, because there will be nothing for sale and no solicitations.

But there will be plenty of refreshments, he said, “and you may be lucky enough to win a door prize.”
