A trip to the Capitol

Thirty-one seventh graders at Thomas Hunter School in Mathews spent the day in Richmond on Tuesday, gaining an understanding of state government and the legislative process. Principal Jodie Simpson, at left, wished them well as they boarded the bus. Among the participants were, from left, Spencer Copeland, Aries Easters, Charlotte Fielding, Ellie Sowers, and their teacher/sponsor, Mary Beth Burroughs, right. Students began their day with a guided tour of the Capitol, and then viewed a House chamber presentation, followed by discussion and vote on a mock House bill. A picnic lunch at Maymont concluded their day. The event was sponsored by the Mathews VA250 Committee....
