120 YEARS AGOThursday, Aug. 9, 1906from the Mathews Journal There have been seen of late sea serpents and snakes with a bull’s head and whiskers in the Glebe, but sharks have been scarce, and it is only once in a while that we have even heard of a porpoise. But here is a shark story worthy of note: While on a picnic party to New Point one day last week, four of the party, consisting of Messrs. A.W. Hepburn, C. McDonald, C.F. Hepburn and his friend, C.R. Widdiefield, were out bathing about 200 yards from the shore when one of them spied a shark and quickly informing the rest of danger, they all immediately made headway for shore. When they were within a few feet of their destination they stopped for breath and looked around only to see a second shark which was but a small way behind the other one.
