A launch party from Pepper Creek to Yorktown

115 YEARS AGOThursday, Aug. 29, 1907from the Mathews Journal

On Thursday last, Mr. Calvin Handy and Sam Hudgins gave a delightful launch party. About 9:30 a.m. we left Pepper Creek with the following on board: Misses Bertie, Laura, Mae, Gertie and Della Hudgins; Hattie, Ellen and Louise Brooks, Mae and Lottie Hutson, Carrie and Julia White, Nellie and Nannie Thomas, George Walker, Maggie Adams and Emma Jarvis and Messrs. Calvin and Gilbert Handy, Clifton, Vernon, John S. and Marvin Hudgins, Guy Morgan, Joe Thomas, George, Walter and Grover Burroughs, Ollie and Sam Hutson, Carl, Jimmie and Logan Snow, Paul Walker, George Thomas and Ed Davis. We started for Yorktown, reaching the pier, landed with basket in hand and were soon seated under the shade of the trees. Dinner was spread, and such a feast—sandwiches, chicken in abundance, pickles, rolls, salads, cake, crackers, apples, grapes, chocolates and cream.
