120 YEARS AGOThursday, Dec. 28, 1905from the Mathews Journal “Bob” Farinholt had two children blown up by the explosion of a powder can Wednesday at Freeport. One died twenty-four hours after the accident, and it is hoped the other may recover. Miss Adele Hunley, of the Virginia Female Institute, is at home for Christmas. Miss Mary Gibson Hunley, a student of the Women’s College, Richmond, is spending the holidays with her father, Hon. G.Y. Hunley. Miss Ruth Shackleford, who is attending school in Hampton, is home for Christmas. Mr. Copeland D. Miller of the S.A. Line, Portsmouth, Va., has been spending his Xmas holidays with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Miller. We congratulate the merchants of our town upon the splendid Christmas trade which their patrons so generously bestowed upon them.
