A happy surprise

Lynn Jaeger of Cobbs Creek, standing at left, had a happy surprise when she took her father and other family members, all of whom live in New York, to the 34th National Convention of American Merchant Marine Veterans in Maryland last Wednesday. Author William Geroux, who spent time in Mathews while writing his book, “The Mathews Men,” was one of the speakers. “The Mathews Men” is about a family of brothers and other men from Mathews who all served in the Merchant Marine during World War II, just as Jaeger’s 94-year-old father did. Shown, front from left, are Jaeger’s Merchant Mariner dad, Edward “Jimmy” Pascale, and his wife, Carol; standing, Jaeger, Geroux, Jaeger’s nephew James Fesselmeyer Jr., and her sister Rose Pascale Fesselmeyer.
