An enterprising young wife and mother, Virginia Gray of Gwynn’s Island, became so enthusiastic creating recipes to make deviled eggs “from all the local farm eggs I was getting” that she sought local interest in a deviled egg contest. The response was great, and plans were set in motion. On February 21 in the building in which their business operates, and where Gilbert Klingel once built steel boats, deviled eggs were on center stage and an elegant table, laden with hors d’oeuvres, was ready to provide a gourmet treat for all. So dedicated was Virginia to this new venture that Scott made his wife a new type of deviled egg holder from spoons (note in picture). Kayla Scott won the top honors for her fried deviled eggs. The Grays moved to Gwynn’s Island in 2020 and opened their oyster business, Salty Bottom Blue. Later, Virginia opened and operated a food truck but had to abandon the project.
