A cold start to spring

The calendar says "spring," but the weather has persisted in saying "winter" into late March. A snow that started Sunday night across the Middle Peninsula did not lead to much accumulation, but frosted the landscape with a layer of white and closed schools for the day in Gloucester and Middlesex counties. Zion Baptist Church at Cardinal, above, wore its winter overcoat as snow continued to fall Monday morning. Below, Gazette-Journal reader Cheryl Slavnik of Gloucester captured these images of a daffodil and cardinal looking a bit cold, and out of place, in the spring snow.
