120 YEARS AGOThursday, Sept. 27, 1906from the Mathews Journal Last Saturday night while Justice C.E. Diggs was driving to his home, near Cardinal, he met with a singular experience. He was near Hepburn’s Lane, directly in front of a telephone pole when a bolt of lightning took the shafts of his speed-cart off as clean as a whistle without injuring horse or driver or doing any further damage to the cart. The shafts are now on exhibition at Mr. T.C. Diggs store, Cardinal. The judge received no injury further than shock and fright. The experience seems to have told on him somewhat as his whiskers appeared to be several shades lighter when we saw him yesterday.
