A cantata in COVID times

Newington Baptist Church in Gloucester is known for its annual Christmas cantatas and did not disappoint in 2020, performing Dec. 13. Because it’s the year of COVID-19, the choir could not be on stage; members appeared virtually, their voices and images recorded during months of preparation. Director Heather King began practice the first of September, and her husband James King individually recorded, videotaped and mixed the images with assistance of Danny Kissinger and Lauren King. Shown at top from left are soloists, Victoria King, Catherine King, Sarah Fank and Kathy Tenan (not pictured; James King and Bob Hinson); center, readers Bob Hinson and Terri Townsend; and left right, Heather and James King. Also taking part were choir members Barbara Vendone, Cheri Green, Elizabeth Scalpati, Hanna Hall, Jerry Young, Cannie Hull, Cathy Gray, Pam Morris, Buddy King, Danny Kissinger and Jim Pyatt.
