Deal to tell story of the Battle of the Hook at GGSV meeting

The Gloucester Genealogical Society of Virginia will hold its monthly meeting on Monday, Jan. 23 in the Gloucester County Library Community Room, beginning at 10 a.m. The meeting is free and open to the public. The program will feature the locally noted Revolutionary War historian, member of the recreated 7th Virginia Regiment of the Continental Army and, currently, president of the Gloucester Historical Society of Virginia, Warren Deal. Deal also serves as Director Emeritus of the Woodville Rosenwald School Foundation and is a past docent of the Gloucester Visitor Center. The title of Deal’s presentation will be “The Butcher, the Duke, the Marquis, the Governor and the Tavern Keeper”—the story of how the lives of these five people were woven together on a fateful day, culminating in the engagement in the Hayes Store area of lower Gloucester County and known as the Battle of the Hook.
