Letter: Honoring Vietnam vets

Editor, Gazette-Journal: In 2017, the Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act established March 29 each year as National Vietnam War Veterans Day. It is observed as a way to thank and honor our nation’s Vietnam veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice and it honors U.S. Armed Forces personnel with active-duty service between Nov. 1, 1965 and May 15, 1975, with no distinction between veterans who served in country, in theater, or were stationed elsewhere. Over two million U.S. service members served in Vietnam, of which more than 58,000 never made it back, with their names memorialized on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. As a community with a strong active and retired veteran military influence, we should take time to recognize and pay respect to these veterans.
