News, by its very nature, often focuses on the negative. Disputes that end in death or serious injury make headlines. Those that are resolved peaceably do not. Tragic accidents with fatalities get coverage. Near misses where someone avoids calamity by a mere fraction of a second receive no attention, except from the person who breathes a sigh of relief. Which brings us to something you’re not likely to see on the front page of the Gazette-Journal moving forward, that is, if conditions allow. COVID-19 first made front-page news in our paper on March 12, 2020. That article, “Concerns grow as virus continues to spread,” informed readers about the first confirmed cases to show up in Virginia.
