The York County community is rallying around a local family as their 16-year-old son Mason Staley is preparing for his second brain surgery after first being diagnosed with a brain tumor at the age of 9. “Back in 2014, Mason started to complain of headaches,” said Kim Staley, his mother. “The headaches got worse over time, and the pediatricians we took him to couldn’t really figure out what was going on. Finally, we were able to see a neurologist, Dr. Ralph Northam, who discovered that Mason had a brain tumor.” Their neurologist then pointed the Staleys in the direction of Dr. Joseph Dilustro, a pediatric neurosurgeon at Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters, who performed Mason’s first brain surgery in October 2014. After that first surgery, things were looking up. Mason’s recovery went well, and his postoperative MRI came back clear of any lingering signs of a tumor.
