Wednesday, December 7, 2016 was Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. More importantly, it was the 75th anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor by the Japanese. Then-President Franklin D. Roosevelt, in his address to the American people, said December 7, 1941 was a date which would live in “infamy.”
This is apparently not true for many of the business establishments which like the Route 17 corridor in Gloucester County and the Court House area.
I counted 46 American flags flying and 31 of these flags were not flying at half-mast—only 15 flew in honor of those who gave their lives on that terrible day.
Maybe the businesses were too busy on their smartphones or Facebook and felt it was not important to honor the 2,403 young men and women who were brutally killed that awful day 75 years ago.
The Arizona, which was the prize of the Pacific fleet, has 1,177 men entombed at Pearl. It has the beautiful memorial housed over the sunken ship now for visitors...
