Motorists driving along New Point Comfort Highway through Susan won’t have to look twice as they pass by the former St. Paul United Methodist Church parsonage, now the home of Tyler Ford and his family.
Ford has constructed a display with well over 40,000 lights again this year to benefit people in need in Mathews County. The lights were turned on Friday evening.
Last year’s display, Ford said, brought in approximately 500 canned goods, equating to 1,000 servings of food, which was distributed to Hands Across Mathews and the Mathews Department of Social Services. “A lot of people stopped by last year and we were able to receive a decent amount of food,” Ford said.
Ford’s passion for decorating for Christmas began in the 1990s, when he helped his parents decorate their home for the Tacky Light Tour in Richmond. Now, employed by the U.S. Coast Guard stationed at Milford Haven, Ford has continued the tradition here, and decided to collect canned goods to help...
