VIRGINIA LOUISE SUTTON

Virginia Louise Sutton, 87, of Port Haywood, Virginia, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 31, 2026. She was born on April 22, 1939, in Newport News, Va., to the late Carl and Alma Shackelford.

Virginia worked as a cashier for 25 years at the A & P and at Barrack’s IGA for seven and a half years before retiring. She was an active member of Saint Paul Comfort Church in Susan, Va., where she joined as a member at the age of 12. She also enjoyed feeding shut-ins every Thanksgiving and organizing this with her church family. She enjoyed her flowers, phone calls, visits, feeding the birds, reading the Bible, and Amish books that she shared with friends. Virginia never knew a stranger, and all that knew her loved her. She was a faithful and loyal servant to her Lord and Savior.

She was preceded in death by her three husbands, Norman Christopher “Billy” Hurst, Edgar Winfield “ET” Forrest, and Norman Ophiton Sutton. Virginia is survived by her children, Deborah H. “Debbie” Hudgins (Edison), Perry Mason Forrest (Jonnie), Sharon Kay Forrest; stepson, Norman Lee Sutton (Evie); nine grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.

The family would especially like to thank the staff at Riverside Lifelong Health & Rehabilitation in Mathews and Hospice for the love, compassion, empathy, and wonderful care given to Virginia. She spoke often about how she was treated with such kindness. Our family feels that God put his best angels here to take care of our mother. We love each and every one who took care of her from the bottom of our hearts. Thank You!

The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. on Thursday, November 5, 2026, at Saint Paul Comfort Church, immediately followed by a funeral service at 2 o’clock. Interment will follow in St. Paul Annex Cemetery, Susan. The family invites everyone back to the church following the interment for a time of food and fellowship.

Memorial contributions may be made to Saint Paul Comfort Church, 5555 New Point Comfort Hwy., Susan, Va. 23163.
Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster-Faulkner Chapel, Mathews, is assisting the family.
