The Gazette-Journal is sponsoring a Cake-O-Rama cake baking contest, and asks you to send your cake recipes. Finalists will be selected in three categories—layer cakes, pound cakes and everything else—and will be asked to bake their cakes for judging on a specified date.

The recipes will be printed in the Gazette-Journal’s annual Christmas Greetings section in December.

The deadline to enter is Friday, Nov. 6. Please send your entries to rsmith@gazettejournal.net; for more information, call 804-693-3101.

Shelter collection

The Gazette-Journal is also collecting pet food and other supplies throughout October for the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society’s animal shelter.

People bringing donations of food or other items will be entered in a drawing of prize items given by local merchants.

For a complete list of shelter supplies, visit gmhumanesociety.org, and read the society’s Wish List.

Veteran recognition

The newspaper will also run sponsored recognition of local veterans in its Nov. 5 issue; sponsorships are $35. See the ad in this issue for more information, or call 804-693-3101.
