Syvati Duo to perform at Arts at Abingdon

Svyati Duo, organ and cello, will perform at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 23, in the Arts at Abingdon concert series at Abingdon Episcopal Church on Route 17 at White Marsh. Admission is free, with a free-will offering accepted. No reservations are required. The duo takes its name from Julian Collings and Rebecca Hepplewhite’s first collaboration as conductor and cellist in a performance of Tavener’s masterpiece “Svyati” for solo cello and choir, said a press release. Sir John Kenneth Tavener became the duo’s patron the following year and remained so until his death in 2013. Hepplewhite and Collings maintain a diverse and exciting repertoire, said the release, from Baroque sonatas through substantial romantic and contemporary works. They are committed to performing music that “displays the diversity of their wonderful instrumental combination.” For more information about the concert series, visit abingdonchurch.org/arts....
