Editor, Gazette-Journal: How well is Congressman Rob Wittman representing residents of our district? A look at President Trump’s priorities in light of Wittman’s near total support of them is revealing. The Republican majority in both houses of Congress is mostly mute and compliant in allowing the president to usurp the constitutional powers of the legislative branch. Executive orders have us deadlocked in a costly war with Iran, seeing our economy whipsawed with ever-changing tariffs largely imposed on our allies, and perplexed by millions spent on White House vanity construction projects. All add to a ballooning national deficit of over $40 trillion. How does this serve the people of Virginia’s 1st Congressional District? For my family, the result is stress and discouragement as we seek ways to cut expenses.
