St. Matthew the Apostle and Evangelist Mission Station, an Orthodox Church in America that follows the Russian Orthodox tradition, began meeting last year in Kingston Parish’s unused Trinity Episcopal Church at Foster. Since it was established, the church body has grown to around 50 members attending the Divine Liturgy on Sunday mornings, said the Rev. Father David Arnold, priest-in-charge of St. Matthew, as well as the priest at St. Cyprian of Carthage Orthodox Church in Midlothian. Services are most regularly provided by Father Andrew Dunks, he said, although Mr. Arnold himself is there “every month or so.” In the Orthodox tradition, the liturgical day begins on Saturday evening, said Arnold, with a Great Vespers service at 6 o’clock at which hymns are geared toward a celebration of Christ’s resurrection.
