Imagination Library fundraiser to be held Oct. 10

The Middle Peninsula chapter of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library will hold its fundraiser, “Rockin’ for Reading,” on Oct. 10 at The Williams Center on the campus of the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society from 2:30-6:30 p.m. The event will feature live music from Van Hutchins and Toby & Larry, food trucks and more. For more than 25 years, the Imagination Library has given a book in the mail to children from birth to 5 years old. Gloucester has 865 children enrolled (47 percent of all residents under five), while Mathews has 140 enrolled (52 of all children under five). Since June 2023, a total of 27,065 books has been mailed to Gloucester children. Mathews children have received 3,031 books since August 2024. Primary supporters for the Gloucester program include Gloucester Rotary Club, Gloucester Community Foundation, Chesapeake Bank and Abingdon Ruritan Club.
