The Mathews High School volleyball teams picked up a pair of victories in recent action, with both the varsity and JV squads defeating King William and Northampton in home matches. Mathews was set to face Arcadia on Tuesday night, but inclement weather forced the Eastern Shore team to turn their bus around; the Blue Devils instead held a Blue and Gold scrimmage for its fans. King William Mathews hosted the King William Cavaliers last Thursday, with the JV squads taking to the court first. The Mathews JV players won that match, 2-1, with the teams splitting the first two games and Mathews winning the third and deciding game, 15-10. The varsity contest also went down to the wire, with Mathews winning 3-2, with the fifth and deciding game won by a 16-14 score.
