Editor, Gazette-Journal: One of the cleverest devices seen in nature is the spider’s web. Painstakingly and patiently woven, its effectiveness of design is remarkably successful. The unsuspecting prey gets caught and, in most cases, didn’t even see it. If it did see it, it wasn’t aware of the devastating outcome. A web of deceit has been woven by the introduction of two proposed Amendments to the Virginia Constitution. The ones I’m speaking of are the Reproductive Freedom and the Marriage Equality Amendments. The language used in the proposed legislation is deceptive. Both will be on the ballot this November. In a previous letter, I indicated several serious red flags raised by the Reproductive Freedom Amendment and urged a “no” vote on that one. In this letter, I would like to focus on the Marriage Equality Amendment. It uses the terms “sex” and “gender” as separate entities.
