Rebecca Smith Cooke of Bena, by mistake (it was intended for a bake sale), entered a cake in the Gloucester County Fair in 1983, and it won a blue ribbon! But she lamented that with a slice taken from it by the judges, the cake could not be sold to support the Gloucester Senior Citizen Club. Cooke died in 1993 at the age of 105. Her cake recipe is printed alongside this photo. 7-UP CAKE 3 c. sugar2 sticks butter½ c. Crisco6 eggs3 c. flour1 c. 7-Up½ tsp. salt Cream butter and Crisco. Add sugar and cream well. Alternately add eggs, two at a time, flour with salt added, and 7-Up. Pour into a greased tube pan and bake 1 hour, to 1 hour and 15 minutes, in a 325℉. Oven....
