In the wake of a feral cat from Maryus Road in Gloucester testing positive for the rabies virus on Sept. 4, the Three Rivers Health District is asking that anyone who observes strange behavior in a colony cat or other animals in the area contact the Gloucester County Health Department. Brenden Rivenbark, executive director of Three Rivers Health District, said the concern is that cats in that feral colony or others could have been exposed to the rabid cat, and that the virus could spread. Exposure to the virus would involve being bitten or scratched by a rabid animal or coming into contact with its saliva by an open wound or through the eyes, nose, or mouth, said a press release.
