Mathews Market Days was held over this past weekend, highlighting the talents and expertise of Mathews residents young and old for the 3,000 or so people who attended. Market Days Committee chair Jen Roahrig reported that the precursor to the fair, the third annual Children’s Block Party, held on Friday, “was a huge success.” Around 150 children attended the event, she said, spending two hours dancing, bouncing, enjoying free cotton candy from Morningstar Marinas, free popsicles, and “tons of neon glowing swag from Mathews Market Days.” The official opening of the fair on Saturday saw weather that was breezy although slightly humid, said Roahrig, but the rain managed to hold off until 6 p.m., when festivities ended for the day. The opening ceremony began with the introduction of this year’s Little Miss Mathews Royal Court, followed by Miss Mathews 2026 Gabriella Hermione Cortes revealing this year’s poster contest winner, Walter Fulmar.
