Award-winning National Geographic filmmaker Nick Caloyianis, shown above, addressed the crowd gathered at the Mathews Museum on Aug. 27 for the opening of the museum’s Gilbert Klingel Aquascope exhibit, at top, which features the hand-built underwater craft that the Mathews resident used to explore the Chesapeake Bay, along with images that appeared in the article Klingel wrote for National Geographic Magazine, below. The exhibit was created in partnership with William and Mary’s Virginia Institute of Marine Science and Batten School. The private gathering preceded the public opening of the exhibit on Aug. 29. The museum, located at 200 Main Street in Mathews, is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. It is free and open to the public....
