Three people died early Sunday morning on Hickory Fork Road in Gloucester when the garage apartment they were living in caught fire and rapidly burned to the ground. Capt. Rob Fox with Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad said his pager went off around 2:40 a.m., and when he heard that the fire was in a detached garage at a nearby address, he knew it must be his neighbor across the street. He got out of bed, threw on his clothes, and saw the blaze through his front windows. “I grabbed my radio and bunker gear and headed across the street,” he said. “The entire structure was encased in fire. You could not even see four walls.” As he came across the street, Fox said he asked two elderly adults who live in the house on the property where the detached garage was located if anyone had come out of the house, and they said no. “I knew we were missing at least two people,” he said.
