This week, the Gazette-Journal concludes its summer series that took us to local museum operations. We have presented photographs of some of the many interesting treasures held for posterity. In this final installment, we look at two properties under management of the Fairfield Foundation, which itself has quite a history: A quarter-century of excavating and researching the histories of local sites. Rosewell The Rosewell Visitor Center and Ruin preserves one of the largest mansions of colonial America. The site features brick ruins following a 1916 fire, a visitor museum, and a Remembrance Structure honoring enslaved African Americans. Throughout 2026, entrance to the museum is free. The site is open to the public on Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m. through Nov. 1.
