The winning artwork from a Guinea Jubilee student contest among Achilles Elementary School students will be unveiled at 11 a.m. Saturday and the students recognized by Barbara Priest as the community closes in on this year’s Guinea Jubilee celebration. The annual festival will be held on Friday, Sept. 25 and Saturday, Sept. 26 on the grounds of the Abingdon Ruritan Club building in Bena. Saturday’s art reception will be held at Buck’s Store Museum, Bena. That venue is also the location the following Saturday for the Guinea Jubilee cake sale, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. “I’d say the cake sale is the most popular thing we’ve got,” said Melissa Ashe, one of the chairs for this year’s festival. Unlike years past, the cake sale (which features the baking talents of local chefs) will be flat prices, instead of an auction. The Miss Guinea Jubilee pageant will be held on Saturday, Sept. 19.
