Gerald Wayne “Pal” Jackson, born July 30, 1949, in Mathews County, Virginia, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2026 in Hampton, Virginia, at the age of 77. A man of steadfast dedication, warmth, and generosity, Pal leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and cherished memories that will live on through his family and friends.
Pal spent his early years honing his skills as an apprentice at the Newport News Shipyard, an experience that laid the foundation for his lifelong career as a self-employed plumber. Through years of hard work and dedication, he built a reputation for his expertise, reliability, and willingness to help others. He took great pride in his work and earned the respect and trust of the many people he served throughout his career.
A proud veteran, Pal served his country honorably in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. His commitment to serving his country reflected the strength, loyalty, and character that defined so much of his life.
Outside of work and family, Pal enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid golfer and baseball enthusiast, finding both joy and tranquility on the golf course. His love of sports was well known among his family and friends, and many cherished memories were made sharing games, laughter, and friendly competition with those he loved.
Pal was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Ralph Edwin Jackson and Avie Christine Wilkerson Jackson; and his sisters, Edwina Casey and Jackie DelRosso.
He is survived by his children, Christy Davol (Tom), Shawn Jackson (Jessica), Dwayne Jackson, Kelly Brooks (Michael), and his youngest son, Jake, who was his best friend and confidant. He is also survived by his sisters, Mary Jenkins and Dottie Henderson. Pal was blessed with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought him immense pride and joy.
Pal will be remembered for his hard-working spirit, his dedication to his family, his love of golf and baseball, and the warmth he shared with those around him. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 11 a.m. Services will be held at the Deltaville Ballpark where Pal was a proud team member for decades. The ballpark is located at 100 Ball Park Road, Deltaville, Va. 23043.
