Editor, Gazette-Journal: Where does Rob Wittman stand? Firmly with Trump. He has voted 100 percent with Trump. When I call Mr. Wittman’s office with a specific question about where he stands on an issue, the standard reply from the young staffer is “I haven’t talked with the Congressman about that, but I will be glad to pass along your concerns to him.” My takeaway is that he doesn’t take a stand. He doesn’t wield the power and the privilege and the great honor that he has been given as a member of Congress. He has ceded that to Trump. Every time we make a choice, we forego other options. That opportunity cost is opportunity lost. If billions are spent on a war; if a billion is spent on an Arch; if exorbitant tax cuts are given to wealth hoarders, what is given up? Social Security? Medicare? Safe food and water? Infrastructure? Health Care? Education? Veterans Services? A budget is a moral document. How our tax dollars are spent matters.
