120 YEARS AGOThursday, Aug. 30, 1906from the Mathews Journal Mr. and Mrs. Mathew Hubin of Baltimore, Md., Mr. Claude Brooks, Mrs. Ida Brown and Miss Lottie Mason have been the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J. Hudgins at New Point for several weeks. There has been no lack of pleasure among the young folks. They have visited Mobjack City and several other places of amusement. Last Saturday the excellent bathing at New Point Beach was enjoyed by this crowd. Mr. and Mrs. A.S. Brooks have accompanied the young people on many of their trips. 110 YEARS AGOThursday, Aug. 24, 1916from the Mathews Journal During the severe electrical storm Tuesday morning the lightning struck in several places and did considerable damage. The home of George Green near Retz was struck and the kitchen and porch damaged. The kitchen was set on fire but the family succeeded in putting out the flames.
