Clear the shelters this August: Your new best friend is waiting

There is something special about the moment a shelter pet realizes they are going home. The Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society is hoping to create many more of those moments as we participate in the nationwide Clear the Shelters campaign. Throughout August, GMHS is encouraging our community to open their hearts and homes to the many deserving pets waiting for families. Shelters are meant to be a temporary stop on an animal’s journey, not their destination. Yet dogs and cats can sometimes spend weeks or months waiting for someone to notice them. Some are energetic youngsters ready for adventure, while others are older pets looking for a quiet couch and a person to call their own.
