After more than a decade of data collection, analysis and content production, the website for Virginia’s Second Breeding Bird Atlas went live on Oct. 31, 2025. Now, eight months after it launched, 10 new pages of content are available to the public. With this update, K-12 educators can learn how the Bird Atlas can support their work in the classroom and fulfill Virginia Standards of Learning requirements, a release said. The public, bird enthusiasts and scientists can explore how species distributions have changed over the past 30 years; how Virginia’s geography, climate and habitats support breeding birds; and how the Bird Atlas will be used in the conservation of declining species.
