The Gloucester Branch of the NAACP held the fifth of 11 sessions in its Pathways to Leadership series on Thursday, July 23, at Shepherdsville Baptist Church and via Zoom. The series is designed to increase citizens’ understanding of local government and encourage civic engagement. The July 23 session focused on the Gloucester County Board of Supervisors and featured chairman Ashley Chriscoe, the board’s at-large representative, and Gloucester Point District supervisor Chris Hutson. Chriscoe and Hutson began the program by inviting questions from attendees. Initial discussion centered on landfill leaching, which they said is not a concern in Gloucester County, followed by questions about data centers, solar farms and residential rooftop solar. Additional topics included the local impact of removing bridge tolls, factors affecting the boat tax, and homelessness in the county.
