Sentara Health, Virginia’s leading not-for-profit integrated health care system, provided Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Virginia on Friday with a formal notice of its intent to allow certain commercial, Medicare and Medicaid agreements to expire if a new agreement cannot be reached. In the notification letter to Anthem, Sentara reaffirmed its commitment to continue negotiating toward a resolution that keeps nearly 380,000 Anthem members in the Virginia in-network. Providing formal notice of termination is a standard contractual step—one that does not preclude either party from reaching a fair agreement, a Sentara release stated.
