Letter: Calmness of the center

Editor, Gazette-Journal: There is little question that the current Trump administration is the most corrupt and incompetent in recent memory. Because of this, Democrats “smell blood” and feel that they can retake control of Congress in the midterm elections and perhaps the White House two years later. That may be possible, but only if they play their cards right. The country is tired of the political pendulum swinging from the far right to the far left and yearns for the security and calmness of the center. This does not mean that certain social programs should be abandoned. Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid are part of the bedrock of our society, occupy the lion’s share of the federal budget and must be funded. The cap on the FICA tax must be raised or eliminated in order to do this. The United States ranks at the bottom among industrialized nations when it comes to health care.
