Editor, Gazette-Journal: Hidden within the Senate Intelligence Authorization Act for FY 2027 is a section titled the United States-Israel Defense Partnership Act (S.554 / H.R.1229)—like a booby-trap bomb packaged as candy. It would embed the state of Israel’s military and intelligence deep within Pentagon and U.S. intelligence agencies, granting a foreign power instant access to American citizens’ private data, activities and even officials’ closed-door meetings. S-554 requires the Department of Defense (DOD) to establish a cooperative program with Israel to counter unmanned aerial and ground systems and mandates a Defense Innovation Unit housed in Israel to field-test technologies for both militaries.
