Jean Duggan, outreach specialist with Bay Aging, spoke to the Gloucester Retired Educators Association during the group’s June 25, providing information regarding Medicare and handing out an extensive folder of information for people to take home. Duggan cautioned those present not to place Medicare cards in a wallet or on one’s person, but to house them in a safe place at home. “One should always be aware of persons who might attempt to steal a Medicare number to get medical treatment or equipment and bill insurance for it,” said a press release. “Beware of phone call scams and other means of obtaining Medicare information.” Duggan also said that many programs are available for low-income people or for those who require several prescriptions so that their medical needs can be met, said the release.
