120 YEARS AGO Thursday, July 26, 1906from the Mathews Journal Miss K. F. Portner, the trained nurse who has been in attendance on little Miss Genevieve Burke, the daughter of our genial Treasurer, who had been ill with typhoid fever, left for her home in Norfolk on Monday last. Miss Portner arrived in the county on July 12 and took charge of the case. The child’s temperature at that time was over 105, but through her skillful treatment it steadily decreased. Little Miss Genevieve is on the road to recovery. For sale: A fine yoke of young oxen, four years old, well grown. For further particulars apply to R. W.
