Michael Paul Andersen, 80, of Hayes, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, on July 9, 2026. He was born on June 7, 1946 in Smith Center, Kansas, to Andy and Marge Andersen. Mike grew up in Eureka, California, and graduated from Eureka High School in 1964. In 1965, Mike joined the U.S. Navy and served on deployments in the Mediterranean and North Atlantic. After completing his service, Mike earned an Associate Degree in Electronics Technology from Thomas Nelson Community College and then worked for the U.S. Government for 32 years as a Field Engineer on Navy submarines. Mike was a dedicated member of his church and community. Mike held many roles, but chairing the Missions Committee was his favorite. He organized mission trips after Hurricane Isabel and Hurricane Katrina. Mike gave his time volunteering with the Salvation Army, Meals on Wheels, the Gloucester Housing Partnership, and the GUEST program. Mike was a dedicated woodworker and loved to share his talents with others. As a Boy Scout leader, Mike enjoyed teaching and watching his scouts work hard to excel. Mike is survived by Donna, his wife of 54 years; his son, Troy and daughter-in-law Melissa; his daughter, Traci and son-in-law Jason, and his cherished grandchildren, Bayleigh, Ashlyn, Dylan, Carley, and Ellen.
