The brick wall in front of Ware Episcopal Church, which was damaged in a vehicular accident last Thursday afternoon, will likely be fully restored in the fall, according to the Rev. Dr. Christopher A. Beeley, the Priest-in-Charge of Ware. The wall is almost as old as the church building itself, said Dr. Beeley, with the building dating to around 1720. Ware Episcopal Parish was originally formed in 1657 and is one of the four Episcopal parishes that made up what was then Gloucester County in colonial Virginia—Abingdon and Petsworth in modern-day Gloucester and Kingston Parish, which became Mathews County in 1791. Ware Episcopal Church will celebrate its 375th anniversary next year. The accident took place around 5 o’clock last Thursday, with preliminary reports indicating a driver pulled into the church parking lot after experiencing issues driving home from a medical appointment.
