The Rev. Dr. Robert A. Diggs Sr. of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Petersburg, celebrates his 30 years of being a pastor, the entire month of July. Services are 8 a.m. and 11 o’clock on Sundays. Diggs is a native of Mathews and the son of Frances V. Diggs and the late Robert E. Diggs of Cardinal. He attended Mathews County Public Schools and worshipped at Zion Baptist Church, Cardinal. Having graduated from high school as a State Champion Half Miler, he was recruited by Norfolk State College to run track. He was the CIAA Champion three of four years in the mile or half mile, and a member of the NCAA Championship team for two years, consecutively. He received his Bachelor of Science degree and entered the U.S. Army as a Distinguished Military Graduate and commissioned RA Quartermaster detailed Infantry in 1975.
