Gloucester High School varsity softball pitcher Autumn Cookson has been named player of the year at the regional level for the third consecutive year. Cookson boasts a 10-2 record for her junior season with a 1.52 earned run average and an opponent batting average of .155. She struck out 119 batters in 70 innings and struck out 11.9 batters per seven innings pitched. During the state quarterfinal match against Dinwiddie, Cookson pitched a no-hitter and was the winning pitcher during the state semifinal game against James Wood. Offensively, Cookson had a batting average of .395. She racked up 34 hits, 12 of which were for extra bases. She also recorded 27 RBIs and 41 runs scored. “We are all so very proud of Autumn,” said head coach David “Red” Lindsay. “It is an amazing feat to be named regional player of the year three years straight.”...
