‘A night to remember’

“It all started with a conversation over dinner and ended with a spectacular community fireworks celebration of the 250th anniversary of our country’s freedom. Pyrotechnico Inc. did an outstanding job,” said Mary Chapman, one of four members of the Mathews Fireworks Committee who helped organize Sunday night’s fireworks show over the East River at Williams Wharf. Chapman, Lynne White, Conrad Hall and Craig DeRemer made up the committee, “but this was truly a community effort,” Chapman said. With donations from over 100 individuals and businesses, the committee raised enough money to make it happen. “The generosity and help from so many including support from the Mathews Rotary, a beautiful venue from Mathews Land Conservancy, Mathews County Public Schools transportation, the Coast Guard and fire safety boats, CERT and their wonderful team, the sheriff’s department, and a host of other volunteers, made this a night to remember.” The Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources, the Virgini...
